It’s winter in Melbourne which means the Williamstown Literary Festival is coming up. Willy Lit Fest, as it’s affectionately known, offers a wonderful mix of writing workships, guided walks, book talks, literary panels, winter swims and more in Melbourne’s west.
I’ve got a particular soft spot for the festival not just because it’s in my own backyard but because it offers such a creative mix of events and activities celebrating books and writing.
This year I’ll be interviewing Annette Trevitt about fathers lost and found. Annette’s wonderful memoir I Had a Father in Karratha chronicles the overwhelming responsibilities she faced as executor of her father’s will after he died 4,500km away in the remote town of Karratha.
In dealing with the mountain of her father’s paperwork, debts and dilapidated properties Annette was forced to deal with emotional unfinished business of her relationship with her dad.
We’ll be discussing father-daughter dynamics, grief and loss and how to gather and hold the debris of a life that has been splintered.
